“From the idea to the toy, design stories” (5 July 2013 – 17 March 2014) address the question of toys creation and highlights their creators and designers works. A toy selection illustrates the diversity of aesthetic approaches, of materials, techniques, and solutions adopted by designers to satisfy the playing child and its parents.
The thirty toys exhibited shows how much the children pleasure and fun, often with an educative purpose (learn while having fun), stimulates the designers creativity. First drawings, technical plans, 3D modelling, prototypes and video interviews are offering a complete vision of the design process, of its constraints and its stakes. Jura designers and international design famous figures (French Philippe Starck, Italian Enzo Mari, or Americans Charles and Ray Earnes) are uninhibitedly confronting each other, testifying of the Jurassian companies place in the world of the toy.
An original scenography and innovating numerical tools promote the visitor’s immersion inside the designer’s world. At the heart of the exhibition, the workshop “Apprentice Designer” (*) invites to discover the secrets of a toy manufacturing. A playful and pedagogic application, available on tablets (and on www.musee-du-jouet.com), drags the youngest in a world in which toys disappeared. The game consists in putting oneself in the shoes of an apprentice designer to recreate the playful universe of the children! A 3D printer allows to move from the virtual to the real. Technology magic, time to an exhibition visit, a toy takes shape!
(*) “Apprentice Designer” benefits from the support of the Ministry of Culture and of Communication (as part of the call for projects “Innovative digital cultural services 2012”) of the regional council of Franche-Comté and of the general council of Jura.

WORKSHOP KIDS DESIGNERS
It’s a piece of cake! (from 4 years old) Workshop of toy creation in a “cake tin” way. Little ones will love play the pastry chef-designer.
Funny toys! (from 7 years old) In the style of the famous Italian designer Bruno Munari, children will make a flexible and humorous toy from a twisted wire.
